(plan) Brompton S2L Superlight upgrades

Brompton S2L Superlight

I kept the bike in its original form, the only two bits I’ve swapped are the saddle and pedals and added the Garmin and the lights. Couple of bags as well. Even the reflectors are still on!

To say I’ve been abusing my Brompton is an understatement. I've washed it only once since I bought it about 120 weeks ago and after almost 3500 kilometres using it as my daily commuter, I had to repair a flat on a pavement near Trafalgar Square when I’ve noticed a couple of holes in my rear tire and the wires sticking out of my break pads so I've swapped those, apart from that I haven’t done any maintenance on it.

Who said Brompton can’t be a cargo bike?

My plan is to transform the Brompton into a do it all sort of bike. I want to continue using it as my daily commuter, I want to carry camping gear on it and I want it ready to climb any mountain.
The biggest change I’m doing to the bike is fit it with the Rohloff hub then install new drivetrain, replace the rear triangle hinge, bottom bracket and headset, swap the brakes for real road brakes and replace as much steel as possible with titanium. The saddle remains the same, the pedals, crankset, front wheel and fork, main frame, stem and the handlebar will stay as well.

I’m hoping to end up with a rust free, touring and climbing ready, average looking Brompton.

I will be filming the entire process and share it on my YouTube, as well as here on the blog. I’m planning on a few video episodes and blog posts aimed at the Brompton owner who’s not a mechanic but passionate about the bike.

Please note, it will not be a how to guide, I’m not a professional Brompton mechanic or any other type of mechanic, I share my process purely to entertain the content consumer and to remind myself how it went.

Please note again, I have no affiliation with any of the brands you'll see or read about, I couldn't care less if they sell their stuff or not, you will never find a link to anything and I don’t recommend any of the parts or tools I've used myself. This content is for adults who can make their own decisions.
